About SoundTempest
This is a blog centered on one of the most interesting (and tumultuous) industries in the United States; the music industry. Fifty, twenty, or even ten years ago, no one could have predicted all of the massive sociological and technological changes that have transformed the music business from a money-printing machine into the wounded, desperate creature it is today.
The whirlwind of change that continues to occur nearly every day has prompted a massive amount of media coverage on the multitude of happenings within the business. Unfortunately, the massive and complex barrage of developments, to the layperson, can be difficult to absorb, especially when the people doing the reporting rarely have a true understanding themselves.
My goal with this blog is to help navigate the troubled waters of the music industry and cut through the fog of misinformation to give you the straight talk on music business news and trends. My own opinions are included and I strongly encourage civil discussion in every post - as long as you’re not trolling or flaming, your comments are welcome.
Besides the frequently-updated news content, you can also check out various articles intended specifically for musicians on the left side navigation, which include the popular “How To Make Money from Music Licensing” and “How to Avoid Music Scams” guides. I post new pieces like this on a (roughly) monthly basis.
You are more than welcome to email me with suggestions or feedback. I hope that whether you’re a music fan, hobbyist musician, or working professional, you will be informed and entertained.
Thanks for visiting!
-Andrew
ps. For those of you who have previously visited SoundTempest prior to its blog format, you may be confused as this was formerly a website devoted to original video game music, then an empty hosting account for several years! However, the “management”, so to speak, is still the same. I haven’t been bought out by anyone yet. :)

thank you for taking the time to create such a comprehensive looking site, i am exploring it for the first time today!
Your site seems way cool. I’m totally into all this stuff. Keep up the ambitious work!
Hi,
We recently had an exchange on the KVR Audio Forum. I was asking if any KVRers blogged. And I’m happy to see that this is an excellent blog. I frequently visit.
